In July 2008, Barefoot Portraits family photography studio designed by Studio Twist has opened in Shanghai. The brief is to transform a 300 sqm warehouse into a family photography studio. Our concept makes use of 4 layers of existing walls in the 5.2m high space to create new openings likened to picture framing when taking photographs so that as you enter and walk around the studio space, views to the exterior and interior are aligned opportunistically to offer surprising picturesque moments. The light filled central space of the studio is used for flexible large scale photo shoots, whilst a new built mezzanine office and reception is planned around this space. Double sided laminated willow veneer plywood is used as a main material to create a warm welcoming atmosphere to the family photography studio where the different settings and openings provide the backdrop for photo shoots.
